Retro Reigns In Summer Fashion Trends

12th June 2015
We might not all be brave enough to sport the revived 1980s playsuit or a kimono, but those of us who enjoyed the khaki, safari style or the nautical look, will be delighted to learn that this summer’s fashion trends are as broad as they are long.

There is certainly a retro feel which draws all these different styles together with bright pops of colour adding individuality to any outfit.

Celebrities opt for shorter hairstyles

And the same can be said for the trends in hair styles where we are seeing the celebrities sporting slightly shorter hair rather than the long wavy look of last year. Any style of bob is bang on trend at the moment, with natural fringes with that ‘grown out’ look, rather than a blunt, straight cut. A side parting with the fringe swept to one side is a versatile style which suits many face shapes. The bob can be layered and worn smooth, textured or waved to fit in with the occasion.

If you dare then there is always the #grannyhair which is taking social media by storm. Inspired by the models on the Jean Paul Gaultier runway, singers such as Rhianna, Lady Gaga and Ellie Goulding have all jumped on the silver bandwagon!

Dresses for everyday and special occasions

We are also seeing the continuation of the last year’s fantastic, feminine dresses in various lengths from mini to maxi, in an array of beautiful patterns – there are lots of dreamy floral and botanical prints on fine organza, poplin and soft lawn fabrics. One ‘must-have’ for this summer, though, is the red dress seen in the M&S TV advert!

Linen, so cool in hot weather, has made a come-back and there is a wide selection of light-weight jersey tops to team with skirts and trousers.

Spoilt for choice

Summer 2015 could end up being quite a confusing time with such a diverse selection of styles and trends in both hair styles and colours. So, what is our advice? Invest in a few key pieces – whether it’s a tailored safari suit, a navy linen trouser suit with a nautical look or a couple of lovely floral dresses – and then add more affordable items to ring the changes.

Your perfect hairstyle and colour to match will then emerge. If you need guidance when choosing your summertime look then book a consultation with one of the team in the studio. We’d love to help.
