How to achieve your salon blowdry at home!

15th September 2023
Going to the hair salon for a blowdry is one of those little treats in life that will leave both you and your hair feeling incredible. So, imagine being able to have that feeling all the time by mastering the blowdry at home!

Patience

Recreating a salon professional blowdry isn’t easy, however with a bit of patience you can create hair magic. If you have long or thick hair the best starting point is to accept that the job won’t be completed in 10minutes, just take your time, and enjoy learning a new skill. However long it takes you will be rewarded with beautiful hair.

Use the correct hairdryer

We always recommend using a nozzle on your hairdryer as this allows you to have more control over the direction of the heat allowing you to get a smooth finish.

The best hairdryers to use are ones with multiple heat and air settings. Use the medium setting to get your hair 70% dry ( this will speed up your blowdry time) and use the high heat setting to manipulate your hair into shape.

Get yourself a round brush

The round brush can be used for both curly and straight blowdries.

(Top tip – The larger the round brush, the faster the drying time!)

The products

Your product choice plays a key role in achieving the perfect blow-dry, using nothing or the incorrect products will make it near impossible to get a professional finish.

A good heat protector is an absolute MUST when working with heated tools as they are designed to reduce hair damage.

Depending on the hair type you can add different blowdry products that will eliminate frizz and reduce your blowdry time. For hair that struggles to hold its style or needs a volume boost you can add a hair mousse, or a blow-dry lotion.

Hair Preparation

1.     Wash your hair to prepare it for styling.

(Use a shampoo and conditioner that’s sulphate and paraben free to avoid frizz and dry ends.)

2.     Squeeze the excess moisture out of your hair with a towel.

To make your life easier make sure the hair is between 50% – 80% dry before starting your blowdry.

3.     Detangle your damp hair with a brush suitable for wet hair.

Starting on a nice, smooth canvas will help you have more control over the hair.

4.     Apply a heat protector before using any hot tools.

Heat can damage your hair follicles and cause the hair to become brittle and dry.

The blowdry

Step 1: Separate the hair into multiple sections

Clip up the top sections, so it’s separated from the rest.

Step 2: Start at the roots and roll the brush down to the ends of your hair.

Roll the round brush using your hand, aiming the air from the hairdryer in the direction of hair growth, slowly moving the brush down the hair as you go.

If you are wanting volume, pull your roots up using the round brush, whilst aiming the hairdryer at the roots.

Step 3: Make sure the section of hair you are working on is 100% dry before moving onto the next section and repeat the process.

Step 4: To finish your look run a tiny amount of oil or shine serum through your hair to subdued any frizz or fly aways.

Now you have your salon blow dry

Fabulous!
