Eat Your Way to Healthy Hair

It’s January. The month of OH-MY-GOD I can’t believe I ate that much over Christmas. the month of dragging ourselves to the gym, eating healthy and generally making yourself feel good after over-indulging for the last few months (I mean, you had to, it was Christmas. No judgements here, we spend the whole of December trying and failing to resist all the chocolatey gifts our lovely clients bring us!)

However, all this healthy eating isn’t just about body positivity! Eating well can have really noticeable effects on your hair. Here’s our quick guide to eating your way to healthy hair this January (and ongoing!)

All the Fruit & Veggies!


Fruit-wise, focus especially on fruit packed with Vitamin C such as oranges, kiwi fruit, papaya and berries such as strawberries and blueberries.

Pack in as much as possible - broccoli, spinach, kale, carrot…. All contain plenty of vitamins keeping your hair healthy.


Veggies such as carrots and sweet potatoes are full of Vitamin A, which aids the production of a substance called ‘sebum’. This acts as a natural conditioner for the hair, keeping it hydrated and looking fabulous.

Sweet Potato

Sweet potatoes are such a good vegetable, as they’re not only good for your hair but they’re filling while not being as carby as ordinary potatoes. Great if you’re doing a calorie deficit!



Eggs are a great source of both protein and biotin, which stimulates hair growth. If you’re someone that wants long, luscious locks, foods high in protein like eggs are the way to go! Super easy as they’re so delicious and can be incorporated into almost anything!

Nuts & Seeds

High in protein and good fats! Incorporating nuts and seeds into your diet will help keep your hair strong and healthy. You could make a mixture of your favourite nuts and make 25g portions for the day to make sure you’re getting all that nutty goodness!

Oily Fish


Omega 3 is like a natural conditioner for the hair, providing important oils which keep your hair strong and hydrated. Salmon and mackerel are yummy and so versatile to keep your meals interesting!



The love of all of our lives, avocados! Avocados contain lots of omega-3 which keeps your scalp and hair hydrated!

They are also the perfect protein and fat source if you’re doing Veganuary, or cutting down in animal products in general.



Spinach is packed full of iron, and so in an especially important one for thinning hair/those experiencing hair loss. This could be due to a lack of iron in your diet. Lots of green veggies like broccoli, kale etc. along with red meat are also packed with iron. Of course if you’re experiencing any serious hair loss you should go to a doctor. But upping these foods can have great effects on keeping your hair healthy


Healthy, balanced diet = healthy hair. Make sure you’re getting all those vitamins in with your fruits and veggies, and your diet is packed full of proteins, irons and good fats. You’ll feel amazing and your healthy, beautiful hair will be a reflection of just how good you feel!
